February 2026
Hello everyone,
With the arrival of spring, tax season is in full swing.
March 2, 2026, marks the deadline for contributing to an RRSP, a valuable opportunity to reduce your taxable income from the previous year and maximize your tax savings.
Then, for most Quebec taxpayers,
April 30 is the deadline for filing their income tax returns.
However, self-employed workers have an additional grace period, with a
June 15 deadline to file their returns.
The
2026 contribution limits are $33,810 for RRSPs, $7,000 for TFSAs, and $8,000 for FHSAs.
This period is an opportunity to take stock of your finances, gather your statements, and plan wisely to make the most of the tax measures available.
There are some
new developments this year:
- Cancellation of the increase in the capital gains inclusion rate, which was to rise from ½ to ⅔ for the portion of gains exceeding $250,000.
- Increase in the lifetime capital gains exemption to $1,250,000.
- Reduction of the tax rate from 15% to 14.5% for the first income bracket for individuals in 2025.
- Reduction of contribution rates to the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) and the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP).
- Offering a new tax credit for personal support workers employed in healthcare facilities.
See you soon!
