Tax season is upon us! Using the portal to access tax slips
Tax season is here! You should soon (or have already) received a Tax Document Checklist that outlines all tax slips you can expect to receive for the 2024 tax year. If you have elected to receive your documents electronically, you may refer to pages 27 and 28 of this guide for instructions on how to download them from your Richardson Wealth Portal. As a reminder, any third-party tax slips will still be sent in the mail. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require assistance with accessing your documents, or if you would like to be set up with access to the online portal.
Mortgage payments on the rise
Over one million mortgages are set to renew in Canada this year, and many homeowners are bracing for higher monthly payments. The majority of mortgages coming up for renewal were secured when the interest rates were historically low – at or below one per cent – during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a recent survey, 57 per cent of the Canadians renewing their mortgages this year expect an increase in their monthly borrowing costs. Among those who expect their monthly payment to rise, 81 per cent said the increase would put financial strain on their household, with many planning to cut back on discretionary spending, travel, and savings.
